Overhook guard

Also known as Clamp Position — the canonical term used on this site.

Descriptive — overhook-closing guard configuration

Overhook guard is the descriptive name for the clamp guard — flagging the overhook grip that the bottom player uses to close the upper-body connection while the legs maintain guard.

Etymology. “Overhook” specifies the arm-configuration (the bottom player’s arm over the opponent’s arm at the shoulder); “guard” attaches the position-family. The compound predominates in coaching contexts that emphasise the grip-mechanic.

Mechanics. The overhook closes the upper-body connection — the bottom player traps the opponent’s arm and prevents the standard postural recovery, while the legs continue to maintain guard.

Cross-reference. “Overhook clamp” and “body lock from guard” are alternate names. Full mechanical coverage on Clamp Guard.
