Outside-leg tripod sweep
Also known as Outside Tripod Sweep — the canonical term used on this site.
Outside-leg variant of the tripod sweep
Outside-leg tripod sweep is a descriptive name for the outside tripod sweep — “outside-leg” naming the foot placed on the outside of the opponent’s leg.
Etymology. “Outside-leg” specifies where the pushing foot sits, on the outside of the knee or hip; “tripod sweep” names the action. The label distinguishes the outside variant from the reverse and standard tripod sweeps.
Mechanics. The sweep destabilises the opponent by splitting their base: the ankle grip holds one foot in place while the outside foot pushes the far leg away, breaking the base in two directions so the opponent topples backward with nothing to step onto.
Cross-reference. “Tripod sweep” is a sibling alias. Full mechanical coverage on Outside Tripod Sweep.
