Meathook guard escape
Also known as High Guard Pass — the canonical term used on this site.
Training background: emphasises the arm control
Informal — escaping the high guard's arm trap
Meathook guard escape is an informal name for the high guard pass — “meathook” referring to the deep overhook a high guard uses to trap the passer’s arm and head.
Etymology. “Meathook” is gym slang for the heavy overhook that high or rubber guard clamps onto the arm; “escape” frames the pass as freeing that arm. The label is colourful and informal, with no lineage beyond the imagery of being hooked.
Mechanics. The high guard controls through the arm-and-head connection it traps; clearing that elbow connection severs the guard’s control over the passer, after which posture can be recovered and the trapped arm freed to pass.
Cross-reference. “High closed guard pass” is a sibling alias. Full mechanical coverage on High Guard Pass.
