Marceloplata
Also known as Monoplata — the canonical term used on this site.
Training background: Variation name only — the Marceloplata is a specific monoplata variant trapping both arms, not a synonym for the monoplata
Named for Marcelo Garcia's monoplata
Marceloplata is an alternate name for the monoplata — attaching the name of Marcelo Garcia, whose competition use of the shoulder lock attached the name.
Etymology. The monoplata is a single-leg shoulder lock; “Marceloplata” is event-anchored to Marcelo Garcia, whose high-level use of this variant linked the name in common usage. The “-plata” suffix marks it as part of the omoplata family of shoulder locks.
Mechanics. The lock loads the shoulder by rotation around a fixed point: a single leg pins the arm while the attacker turns the shoulder past its rotational range, the rotation building leverage on the joint. The shoulder, not the whole arm, absorbs the load as the angle tightens.
