Long guard

Also known as Seated Guard — the canonical term used on this site.

Training background: colloquial

Colloquial — extended-leg guard

Long guard is the colloquial name for the seated/extended-leg open-guard configuration — using “long” to flag the leg-extension geometry that produces the distance-control mechanic.

Etymology. “Long” describes the leg-extension; “guard” attaches the position-family. The label is informal coaching vocabulary used interchangeably with “long sit” and “open guard.”

Mechanics. The extended legs maintain distance between the bottom player and the standing opponent — the configuration trades close-range control for distance management.

Cross-reference. “Long sit,” “open guard,” and “butt scoot guard” are alternate names. Full mechanical coverage on Seated Guard.
