Lockdown sweep

Also known as Electric Chair Sweep — the canonical term used on this site.

Training background: Descriptive alternative — refers to the lockdown as the entry position

Descriptive — electric chair from the lockdown

Lockdown sweep is a descriptive name for the electric chair sweep — naming the lockdown half guard the electric chair sweep launches from.

Etymology. “Lockdown” names the laced-leg half guard that sets up the sweep; “sweep” names the reversal. The label foregrounds the entangling position over the “electric chair” image of the finish.

Mechanics. The sweep rotates the opponent over the trapped leg: extending the laced lockdown while controlling a leg loads them sideways around that fixed point, so the rotation tips them off balance and the bottom player follows it up into the reversal.
