Leg lock pass

Also known as Body Lock Pass — the canonical term used on this site.

Training background: informal

Informal — 'locking the legs' via the body lock

Leg lock pass is a colloquial name for the body lock pass — where “lock” refers to clamping the opponent’s legs, not to any submission leglock.

Etymology. The label is a common source of confusion: “leg lock” elsewhere names a joint submission, but here it describes the body lock’s effect of locking the legs out of play. Precise vocabulary reserves “leg lock” for submissions and uses “body lock pass” for this control.

Mechanics. The clasp around the hips immobilises the lower body and carries unbroken into the pin on the far side — the controlling lock and the finished pin are the same continuous task rather than separate steps.

Cross-reference. “Double leg wrap pass” is a descriptive sibling. Full mechanical coverage on Body Lock Pass.
