Kneeling pass position

Also known as Headquarters (HQ) — the canonical term used on this site.

Training background: informal

Informal — the kneeling hub for passing

Kneeling pass position is a colloquial name for headquarters — describing HQ plainly as the kneeling position from which passes are launched.

Etymology. The phrase is literal and informal: “kneeling” names the stance, “pass position” names the function. It is descriptive gym vocabulary, used where the term “headquarters” is unfamiliar.

Mechanics. HQ establishes the controlling connection on the opponent’s legs that every subsequent pass depends on; without first connecting to and pinning the legs from this position, the passer has no platform from which to clear the feet and advance.

Cross-reference. “Half-knee position” is a sibling alias. Full mechanical coverage on Headquarters (HQ).
