Jumping triangle
Also known as Flying Triangle — the canonical term used on this site.
Training background: Alternative common term.
Descriptive — jumping (flying) triangle
Jumping triangle is a descriptive name for the flying triangle — “jumping” and “flying” both naming the airborne entry into a triangle from standing.
Etymology. “Jumping triangle” describes leaping up to lock the legs around the opponent’s neck and arm; “flying” is the more common synonym. Both name the same standing entry, differing only in which verb names the leap.
Mechanics. The triangle’s leg lock around the neck and one arm is the controlling connection that the whole finish depends on; the jump’s job is to establish that connection before landing, since a triangle that closes on the neck without the arm trapped has no finishing structure.
