Jumping armbar
Also known as Flying Armbar — the canonical term used on this site.
Training background: Alternative common term.
Descriptive — jumping (flying) armbar
Jumping armbar is a descriptive name for the flying armbar — “jumping” and “flying” both naming the airborne entry into a standing armbar.
Etymology. “Jumping armbar” describes the leap onto the opponent that initiates the attack; “flying” is the more common synonym. Both name the same standing-to-armbar entry, differing only in which verb describes the jump.
Mechanics. The flying entry isolates the target arm by committing the attacker’s whole body around it before the opponent can withdraw it into their defensive structure; once the arm is removed from the body’s protection, the airborne weight finishes the lever as the pair lands.
