Inner leg trip

Also known as Inside Trip — the canonical term used on this site.

Training background: Descriptive alternative

Descriptive — English for the inside trip

Inner leg trip is a descriptive name for the inside trip — naming the trip applied to the inside of the opponent’s leg.

Etymology. “Inner leg” specifies the inside line of the trip; “trip” names the action. The label is plainly descriptive, distinguishing the inside trip from its outside counterpart by which side of the leg is attacked.

Mechanics. The trip controls the opponent’s near leg and reaps it inward, removing the support beneath them; destabilisation depends on controlling that leg, since a trip that fails to trap the support simply lets the opponent step out of it.
