Folding pass

Also known as Stack Position — the canonical term used on this site.

Training background: describing the folding mechanic

Folding pass as the stack position

Folding pass, in this sense, names the stack position — folding the opponent’s hips up over their own shoulders under pressure.

Etymology. “Folding pass” describes packing the opponent into a fold; here it routes to the stack position, disambiguated from the double-under folding pass. This usage emphasises the stacked pressure the fold creates rather than the under-grips.

Mechanics. The fold destabilises the opponent onto their shoulders before control settles: driving the hips up over the head loads their weight onto their upper back, where they cannot generate the structure to recover. From the destabilised stack the passer secures the position, the fold having removed their base entirely.
