Flower sweep
Also known as Pendulum Sweep — the canonical term used on this site.
Names the pendulum (flower) sweep
Flower sweep is a common name for the pendulum sweep — “flower” a longstanding nickname for the swinging closed-guard reversal.
Etymology. “Flower sweep” and “pendulum sweep” name the same closed-guard technique; the “flower” tag is traditional gym vocabulary, while “pendulum” describes the leg swing. The two are fully interchangeable.
Mechanics. Controlling the opponent’s near arm wins that side, and swinging the legs like a pendulum supplies the momentum: trapping the arm so it cannot post, the bottom player swings one leg up and the other down to rotate the opponent over the unprotected side into the reversal.
Cross-reference. “Hip escape sweep” is a sibling alias. Full mechanical coverage on Pendulum Sweep.
