Far leg control

Also known as Waiter Position — the canonical term used on this site.

Training background: descriptive

Descriptive — far-leg controlling waiter guard

Far leg control is the descriptive name for the waiter guard — flagging the far-leg-cradling mechanic that produces the lifting leverage characteristic of the position.

Etymology. “Far leg” specifies the controlled leg (the opponent’s leg away from the bottom player’s body); “control” attaches the manipulation category. The compound predominates in coaching contexts that emphasise the leg-target-and-lift mechanic.

Mechanics. The far-leg cradle lifts the opponent’s supporting leg — the sweep follows when the opponent’s weight transfers off the lifted leg.

Cross-reference. “Leg lace back position” and “waiter guard” are alternate names. Full mechanical coverage on Waiter Guard.
