Double overhooks back control
Also known as Backpack Position — the canonical term used on this site.
Training background: When the harness grip is used — emphasises the arm configuration
Descriptive — both arms over-hooked from back position
Double overhooks back control is the descriptive name for a backpack-style back position in which the attacker secures both arms in over-hook grips around the opponent’s torso — emphasising the arm-configuration over the broader positional metaphor.
Etymology. “Double overhooks” specifies the grip configuration: both of the attacker’s arms passing over the opponent’s shoulders to grip the chest or upper torso. “Back control” attaches the positional category. The compound phrase appears in coaching contexts that distinguish this variant from the standard seatbelt (one over, one under) and from the harness or backpack-style configurations using different arm patterns.
Mechanics. The closed double-overhook loop transfers the attacker’s chest weight through the grips into the opponent’s torso — the connection denies the opponent the framing they would need to break the position or rotate to face the attacker.
Cross-reference. “Backpack position” is the metaphorical name for the same configuration; the seatbelt grip is the one-over-one-under alternative. Full mechanical coverage on Backpack.
