Cross scissors

Also known as Side Scissors Sweep — the canonical term used on this site.

Names the cross-body side scissors sweep

Cross scissors is a descriptive name for the side scissors sweep — “cross” naming the across-the-body angle of the scissoring legs.

Etymology. “Cross scissors” describes the legs scissoring across the opponent rather than straight on; “side” names the same lateral angle. The label foregrounds the crossing direction of the scissor.

Mechanics. The scissoring legs destabilise the opponent sideways: one leg drives across the midsection while the other clears the base, and closing the scissors across the body tips the opponent over the low leg before they can square back up to recover.

Cross-reference. “Lateral scissor sweep” is a sibling alias. Full mechanical coverage on Side Scissors Sweep.
