Bulldog escape

Also known as Bulldog Choke Escape — the canonical term used on this site.

Escape from the bulldog choke

Bulldog escape is the shorthand name for the escape sequence from the bulldog choke — the front-headlock variant in which the attacker controls the head from a kneeling or standing position and applies bilateral neck compression.

Etymology. The label compresses “bulldog choke escape” by dropping the “choke” — common in coaching shorthand where the position name alone identifies the threat. The “bulldog” descriptor in the parent name evokes the squat, grounded posture the attacker uses to apply the choke from above.

Mechanics. The escape priority is destabilising the attacker’s posture before the bilateral compression closes — once both carotids are loaded, the escape window narrows sharply.

Cross-reference. “Bulldog choke escape” is the full name; “headlock-front-choke escape” is the alternate descriptive label. Full mechanical coverage on Bulldog Choke Escape.
