Buggy

Also known as Buggy Choke — the canonical term used on this site.

Shortened — buggy choke

Buggy is the shortened form of the buggy choke — the inverted-arm-around-neck strangle applied from the bottom position with the attacker’s own arm wrapped around their head and the opponent’s shoulder.

Etymology. “Buggy” drops “choke” — common in coaching shorthand where context makes the submission category clear. The name’s broader origin in competitive BJJ vocabulary marks the choke’s emergence as a modern bottom-position attack.

Mechanics. The closed-arm loop produces bilateral compression — the attacker’s forearm and biceps load both sides of the neck while the opponent’s shoulder closes one half of the geometry.

Cross-reference. “Buggy choke” is the full name; “leg-over choke” is the descriptive alternate. Full mechanical coverage on Buggy Choke.
