Buggy escape

Also known as Buggy Choke Escape — the canonical term used on this site.

Training background: when applied during your own escape

Contextual — buggy choke applied during escape

Buggy escape is the contextual name for the buggy choke when applied as a submission attempt during a bottom-position escape sequence — the choke threat becomes available as the bottom player works through specific escape geometries against side-control or mount.

Etymology. “Buggy” is the modern competitive-BJJ vocabulary for the inverted-arm-around-neck strangle from the bottom position; “escape” attaches the contextual purpose. The compound label flags the choke’s escape-context application — distinct from the buggy choke applied as a direct submission attempt from a stable bottom-guard position.

Mechanics. The choke uses the bottom player’s own arm wrapping around their head and the opponent’s shoulder to form the closed compression loop — the geometry only becomes available during specific escape transitions and is more commonly defended by stopping the wrap before it closes than by removing it after.

Cross-reference. “Buggy choke” is the standard technique name. Full mechanical coverage on Buggy Choke.
