Arm-across-face defence
Also known as Gift Wrap — Bottom — the canonical term used on this site.
Training background: Descriptive — captures the arm configuration
Descriptive — defending the gift-wrap arm trap
Arm-across-face defence is a descriptive name for the gift wrap bottom position — naming the defence against the opponent’s own arm being driven across the face.
Etymology. “Arm-across-face” describes the gift wrap’s mechanic, the bottom player’s arm pushed across their own face and held; “defence” frames their response. The label names the position by the trap being defended.
Mechanics. The gift wrap isolates the trapped arm across the face, removing it from the defensive system and exposing the neck and back; the defence reclaims that arm, peeling it back to the body before the opponent can use the wrap to take the back or attack the neck.
Cross-reference. “Trapped-arm mount” is a sibling alias. Full mechanical coverage on Gift Wrap — Bottom.
