Ankle pick takedown
Also known as Ankle Pick — the canonical term used on this site.
Training background: full descriptive name
Descriptive — takedown by picking the ankle
Ankle pick takedown is a descriptive name for the ankle pick — adding “takedown” to spell out that picking the ankle is the finish, not just a grip.
Etymology. “Ankle pick” names the grip on the ankle; “takedown” attaches the outcome. The compound is plainly descriptive, distinguishing the completed takedown from the ankle grip used merely as a setup.
Mechanics. The pick pins one ankle to the mat so the opponent cannot step that leg to re-base, while pressure off-balances them over the trapped foot; destabilisation depends on controlling that leg so the secondary support is removed before the opponent can recover it.
