Adductor stretch defence

Family Escapes & Defence

Also known as Banana Split Escape — the canonical term used on this site.

Anatomical — the adductor group under forced abduction

Adductor stretch defence is the anatomical name for banana split defence, describing the tissue under load: the adductor group taken past its range by forced abduction.

Etymology. The clinical phrasing is used where the injury mechanism matters — this is a muscular and tendinous injury rather than a joint one, which changes both the warning profile and the recovery.

Mechanics. Muscle has more tolerance than a joint, so the sensation understates the danger and defenders ride it too long. The failure is then sudden and the recovery slow, which is why the guidance is to act on the position rather than on how the stretch feels.

Cross-reference. “Crotch ripper escape” is the colloquial name. Full escape coverage on Banana Split Escape.
