Ground Entries

Ground entries are initiated from seated or guard positions. These are the primary entry routes for most practitioners — the standing entries (below) are advanced techniques with higher risk profiles.

Standing Entries

Standing entries go from standing or clinch directly into leg entanglement positions. The Imanari roll, flying triangle, and flying armbar all carry elevated risk — both from the downstream submissions and from the counter-risk inherent in committing from standing.

Recommended Learning Sequence

  1. Read first: Tapping Culture — before any leg entanglement drilling.
  2. Ground entry 1: Shin-on-ShinAshi Garami
  3. Ground entry 2: Single Leg XOutside Ashi
  4. Guard system entry: The Reap and False Reap — once ashi and outside ashi are functional.

  6. Standing entry: Guard Pull — Foundations. The others (Imanari, flying submissions) are Advanced/Elite.
